All the streets and buildings of Vidin, the nearest transport hub to Belogradchik, are oriented towards the Danube and the Riverside Park that spreads out along the river’s banks. With its recreational areas, beaches and landscapes (which combine English parks and Baroque Austrian gardens), the Park offers a wide variety of places for relaxation and recreation.
The Baba Vida Fortress is the best preserved medieval fortress in Bulgaria, constructed over a range of historical periods. Within its walls, there is a theatre stage and a museum exhibition. Apart from the fortress, visitors can enjoy The Ottoman Fortification and Administrative centre, a mosque and a library built in the 14th century, the Jewish Synagogue, a medieval cave monastery, and a number of museums, galleries and historical monuments. Several interesting tourist attractions are also located in and around Belogradchik (Belogradchik Rocks and Magurata), Kula (Castra Martis), Dimovo, Venets Cave, Izvorski Monastery and Chuprene (Biosphere Reserve, Folklore fair).
Belogradchik is situated 53 km from Vidin in an extremely picturesque region with unique rock formations and natural wonders. Thus, it has become a famous tourism centre with excellent resources for trips, cave and bicycle tourism, mountain climbing, hunting, fishing and even astronomical observation.
How to reach Belogradchik
On the Sofia–Vidin line (departing from Sofia Central Railway Station) stopping at the village of Oreshets, which is about 10 km to the east of Belogradchik. Regular buses and a taxi service connect the railway station to Belogradchik.
Direct buses run from the Central Bus Station in Sofia, to Belogradchik daily. The town is most easily reached by bus from Vidin, (53 km) to the north.
