ABOUT WINE REGION
The Fruška gora region is most famous for its National Park, sixteen Serbian Orthodox monasteries and, of course, its very old winemaking tradition. The Roman emperor Probus was responsible for the start of viniculture in this area in the 3rd century AD. The Fruška Gora vineyards decorate the lower slopes of the mountain and are blessed with a good microclimate. Sixty privately owned wine cellars offer samples for tasting.
Fruška gora is an isolated, narrow, island mountain in the Pannonia plain. It is crossed by river courses extending to the south and north, with some side ranges with steep slopes spreading from the main narrow range. Its location, specific geological history and specific microclimatic conditions make it very interesting and important to science. Thanks to its unique and very rich deposits of fossilised fauna and flora, Fruška Gora is called the ‘mirror of geological past’.
About Destination
The Fruška gora Monasteries are a unique group of densely placed monasteries built in the period from 15th to 18th century. A total of thirty-five monasteries were built in a marvellous natural setting, with sixteen preserved to the present day. Once, these monasteries were a symbol of Serbian national resistance against the Ottoman Empire and were the guardians of the vast national treasuries of sacral arts, relicts and architecture. Serbian Orthodox Church communities exist at the monasteries of Krušedol, Petkovica, Rakovac, Velika Remeta, Divša, Novo Hopovo, Staro Hopovo, Jazak, Mala Remeta, Grgeteg, Beočin, Privina Glava, Šišatovac, Kuvežedin, and Vrdnik-Ravanica.

The city (Sremski Karlovci, Fruška Gora Region) is located in the vicinity of Novi Sad, and around 80 km from Belgrade.
Sremski Karlovci is also located on the EuroVelo 6 international cycling route.
