ABOUT WINE REGION

Located south of the central Carpathians, the vineyards of Muntenia and Oltenia cover approximately 104,000 hectares. The vineyards are in a famous sunny wine belt (44o–45oN), on the lower slopes of the mountain towards the plains. An ideal mix of Continental and Mediterranean climates, the local micro-climate and soil create a perfect environment for excellent, full-bodied red wines.

This wine region is located in the Mehedinci district with the county seat of Drobeta-Turnu Severin situated on the Danube in the famous touristic region of Iron Gate. The natural tourist resources of the area include the particularly attractive landscape with its geological formations, variety of karstic features (gorges, caves, karst lakes, and springs), mineral waters, forestry hunting resources, and biodiversity. The cultural and historical potential includes many important material and non-material elements of the local cultural identity, and the hydro-technical facilities on the Danube River (dams and viaducts) that represent significant engineering works with a remarkable tourist potential.
